What are your baby clothes made of?
Our baby clothes are made with 95% bamboo viscose for a silky-soft, breathable feel, and 5% spandex to add just the right amount of stretch. This premium combination creates a fabric that keeps your baby comfortable, allows for easy movement, and helps maintain its shape wear after wear.
Is bamboo viscose the same as natural bamboo?
Not exactly. Bamboo viscose starts with the bamboo plant, which is broken down into a pulp and spun into soft, silky fibers. So while bamboo itself is a natural, renewable resource, the fabric goes through a manufacturing process to become the buttery-soft material you feel in our clothes. The result is a fabric that combines the best of nature with modern comfort.

How does bamboo compare to cotton for babies?
Bamboo viscose is softer than cotton, more moisture-wicking, and better at regulating temperature. Bamboo absorbs significantly more moisture than cotton, wicking it away from your baby's skin to keep them comfortable, which is especially important in Louisiana's heat and humidity. Cotton is a great fabric too, but bamboo simply goes further for sensitive skin and warmer climates.
Will bamboo clothing keep my baby cool in summer and warm in winter?
Yes! Bamboo fabric is thermal-regulating. It can help insulate heat when it's cold outside and keep your baby cool when it's hot. This makes it a genuinely year-round fabric, which is perfect for South Louisiana, where the weather can shift dramatically even within a single day.
Is bamboo clothing safe for newborns?
Yes! Our bamboo viscose fabric is gentle enough for newborn skin. It's free from harmful chemicals, naturally hypoallergenic, and temperature-regulating, making it ideal from day one.
Are your baby clothes chemical-free?
Yes! All Pearls & Pelicans pieces are made without harmful chemicals. Our dyes and pigments are AZO-free and contain no heavy metals like lead, cadmium, chromium, or mercury. We also never use formaldehyde, phthalates, or flame retardants in the finishing process.
Can my baby sleep in these?
Yes! Our pieces are made for all-day and all-night wear. The soft, breathable fabric and temperature-regulating properties of bamboo make it especially great for sleep. For safe sleep, always follow current AAP guidelines.
Do you offer matching family sets?
Yes! We carry styles for babies, toddlers, kids, adults, and even pets, so the whole family (fur babies included!) can coordinate in our prints.

Do your clothes run true to size?
Our bamboo viscose blend has a natural stretch thanks to the 5% spandex, so our clothes are designed to fit true to size. When in doubt, check our Sizing Chart. We include weight and height ranges to help you find the best fit.
My baby is between sizes. Which should I choose?
We recommend sizing up. Bamboo's natural stretch means a slightly larger size will still fit snugly, while still giving your baby more room to grow into it.
How do I pick a size for a gift?
When in doubt, go bigger! Babies grow fast, and a 6–12 month or 12–18 month size is almost always a safe bet for a new baby gift. You can also grab a gift card and let the parents choose.

Properly caring for bamboo clothing is simple and helps maximize its lifespan. For best results:
- Hand wash when possible. Use cold water and a mild detergent to help protect the fibers.
- Machine wash only when needed. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle. Zip garments and turn them inside out before washing.
- Use a mesh laundry bag. This is especially helpful when washing in machines with agitators to reduce stretching and wear.
- Avoid bleach and fabric softeners. These can break down the fibers and affect the fabric's natural softness.
- Air dry when possible. Lay flat or hang to dry to maintain shape and softness.
- Use low heat if drying. If using a dryer, choose a low heat setting to protect the fabric.

Do your prints fade after washing?
Our AZO-free dyes are designed to stay vibrant wash after wash. Following our bamboo clothing care guidelines (cold water, gentle cycle, low heat or air dry) will help preserve the colors and softness of every piece.

How long does shipping take?
Orders are typically processed within 3-5 business days of being placed, after which they are shipped via UPS. Delivery times vary depending on your location and any delays, such as weather, high shipping volumes, or carrier issues.
Please double-check your delivery information at the time of placing your order. We are unable to replace orders submitted with incorrect addresses or accept responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged packages once they are in transit.
Do you ship internationally?
We primarily ship within the United States. However, we’re happy to accommodate international orders! Please email hello@pearlsandpelicans.com to discuss your request, and we’ll provide an invoice for shipping costs based on your location.
How do I track my order?
After placing your order, you'll receive a confirmation email with your tracking number. To check the status of your shipment, simply visit our Track My Order page and enter the given tracking number.
If you don’t see the email or need further assistance, our customer service team is happy to help you track your order.
Can I cancel or change my order after placing it?
We process orders immediately to get them on their way to you as soon as possible. Because of this, we do not accept order cancellations or modifications. Please double-check your order before placing it to ensure all details are correct, including item selection, quantity, and shipping information.
Returns & Exchanges
What is your returns policy?
We want you to love your purchase, but if it doesn’t work out, you can return it within 7 days for a refund or exchange. Items must be unused, unworn, unwashed, in the same condition as received, and still have the tags attached to be eligible for a return.
Refunds will be issued to your original method of payment. Original shipping fees will not be refunded.
To initiate a return or exchange, visit our Returns page, enter your order number and email, and complete the remaining prompts. Once your return is received at our warehouse, please allow up to 7 business days for processing.
Can I return items purchased on sale?
Items purchased on sale are considered final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.
